Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik of the Czech Republic claimed the US Open mixed doubles title on Wednesday, defeating Switzerland's Belinda Bencic and Italy's Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 1-6, 10-6 in the final at New York. The Czech pair navigated a challenging championship match, recovering from a second-set setback to secure victory. Mensik finished the match with an ace to the backhand corner.
Muchova and Mensik advanced to the final after a dramatic semi-final against Russia's Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev, winning 5-4, 3-5, 11-9 while saving two match points. An ace from Mensik proved decisive in that contest as well. The victory marked the first Grand Slam doubles title for both players, though Muchova reached the Wimbledon singles final in July, where she lost to fellow Czech Linda Noskova in three sets.
The mixed doubles event, now in its second year, features a streamlined format with shortened sets and multiple matches on the same day. The format was designed to encourage top singles players to participate before the main tournament begins. Bencic and Cobolli had earlier defeated the married pairing of Ukraine's Elina Svitolina and France's Gael Monfils 4-5, 4-1, 10-5 in their semi-final.
