Eugenio Suárez delivered a ninth-inning grand slam on Wednesday that sparked the Cincinnati Reds' six-run comeback against the San Francisco Giants, the team's largest rally since 1958. The homer cut a five-run deficit and helped Cincinnati secure a 10-9 victory to avoid a sweep. Hours later, the Reds placed Suárez on outright waivers along with outfielder TJ Friedl.

The waiver move allows any of MLB's 29 other teams to claim Suárez and assume roughly $3 million of his $15 million contract for the remainder of the season. The 35-year-old struggled in his return to Cincinnati after a 49-homer 2025, batting .205 with 19 homers and poor defensive play at third base. If unclaimed, Suárez remains with the organization unless designated for assignment.

Cincinnati stands at 63-71 following Wednesday's win and sits nine games behind the final National League wild-card spot. Both Suárez and Friedl received minimal interest at the trade deadline and are not expected to return next season as the Reds continue a disappointing campaign after earning a wild-card berth in 2025.
