Guard D'Angelo Russell has signed with the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association, leaving the NBA ahead of the 2026-27 season. The 30-year-old veteran was waived by the Memphis Grizzlies after being traded there from Washington during the offseason. Russell spent the 2025-26 season moving between three NBA franchises, appearing in 26 games for the Dallas Mavericks before his trades.

Russell has played for five NBA teams over his 11-year career, including a stint with the Golden State Warriors where he averaged 23.6 points, 6.2 assists and 3.7 rebounds across 33 games. The 2015 NBA draft's No. 2 overall pick finishes his league career with averages of 17 points, 5.6 assists and 3.3 rebounds in 655 regular season games. He was selected as an All-Star with the Brooklyn Nets during the 2018-19 season.

Russell will join former NBA players Brandon Goodwin and Hassan Whiteside on the Shanghai Sharks roster. The CBA season begins October 16 with the Sharks facing the Shenzhen Leopards.
